Redefine Capacity
For most of my life, I thought capacity was simply how much I could handle. I could work hard, wear multiple hats, solve problems, take care of people, exercise, volunteer, start something new, and then somehow find room for one more thing. I was actually pretty good at it. The problem was that I never stopped to consider whether my body was equally impressed with my ability to keep adding things to the list.
I’ve always lived a healthy lifestyle. I eat well, exercise, take supplements, drink water, and pay attention to what my body needs. I understood the importance of nutrition and movement, but I had never really considered the electrical side of wellness. Our nervous system communicates through electrical signals, our heart has electrical activity, and our cells use electrical properties for communication. Everything is energy, yet somehow I had completely overlooked frequency as an input my body understands.
That became a big ah-ha for me because, despite doing so many of the “right” things, I had spent years being hypervigilant. I was always anticipating what needed to happen next, solving the next problem, or putting on whichever hat the situation required. Apparently, my nervous system thought this was a full-time position with no vacation policy. When I began incorporating frequency into my life, I finally experienced what it felt like for my nervous system to relax. My energy became more consistent, the everyday aches and pains went away, and I began to feel more aligned in other areas of my life too.
That experience completely redefined capacity for me. I no longer think of capacity as how much we can force ourselves to carry. I think of it as what our body has available to meet the demands we place on it. If our body is constantly using its resources to react, compensate, and stay on alert, how much is left for energy, recovery, clear thinking, movement, and all the other things we expect it to do?
Maybe the goal isn’t to become better at pushing through life. Maybe it’s to have enough capacity to actually enjoy it. That is a Reset worth making.
